Dire customer service is everywhere these days.
It seems that it has become the norm.

It seems that it has become the norm.
Picture this:
You walk into a store with a question about where to find a product. The employee, who is busy replenishing the shelves and texting a friend at same time, does not want to be bothered and gives you a short answer and continues what she is doing without even looking you in the eye. You persist, so, with obvious annoyance, the employee takes a deep breath, turns around, and points you in the general direction of the product’s location. You go to find the product yourself because you really need it now; you leave the store frustrated, vowing to never return...
How about if you have to ship a box to a relative, friend, or customer? You go to a carrier and find out the box is too large compared to the size of the item to be shipped, which would double the shipping rate. The employee promptly mentions that she has a tool that can cut and fold the box just to the exact size of the item at no extra cost so you pay less for the shipping without having to buy a smaller box. Not only she does the cutting and folding for you, but she tapes the box as well. In less than five minutes you leave the store satisfied and confident that your item will be shipped safe and timely, at the fair rate – besides the outstanding customer service.
Both of situations happened to me at the same day this week. I went to Staples in South Florida to buy a box (after waiting in line at Post Office for twenty minutes to find out they did not have the box I needed) and the employee was too busy texting a friend while replenishing the shelves; then I went to the aisle to try to find it on my own; I found the box (which was double the size of the item to be shipped but the store did not have a good selection), then I went to UPS and had the spectacular experience you just read in the paragraph above – yet, for few dollars less than if I had shipped via Post Office.
Now, I ask you this question: Is customer service in extinction in Florida? If you are not from Florida, how do you feel about it in the state you live in? Tell us your story, the sad or happy ending one. You can also share with us how important customer service is in terms of personal experience or purchase decision.
